Before shooting his daughter-in-law, Carolina Flores—taking her life in the process—Erika Herrera spoke with her son, Alejandro Sánchez, to convince him to leave her alone with the victim.

This is what Alejandro Sánchez, Carolina Flores’s husband, reportedly explained; reports indicate that prior to the femicide, his mother told him she needed to speak with her daughter-in-law.

In his statement, it is alleged, the victim’s husband also provided details regarding what transpired after the crime and the manner in which the perpetrator of the femicide fled the scene.
On April 15, 2026, Erika Herrera shot her daughter-in-law, Carolina Flores, multiple times inside an apartment in Polanco, Mexico City (CDMX).

The attack that claimed Carolina Flores’s life was reportedly premeditated in meticulous detail by the perpetrator, as her son, Alejandro Sánchez, revealed a conversation that appears to substantiate this.
According to journalist Carlos Jiménez, in his initial statements to authorities, Carolina Flores’s husband noted that on the morning of that same day—April 15—he went out for a walk with his baby.

Upon returning to the apartment, his mother, Erika Herrera, told him she needed to speak privately with her daughter-in-law, as she wished to discuss the issues the couple was facing.

Intending to afford them privacy, Alejandro Sánchez took his baby and went into another room—meaning the perpetrator’s plan was to ensure she was left alone with the victim.
It was during this time that several loud noises were heard—sounds which Carolina Flores’s husband initially described as “firecrackers,” but which, seconds later, he realized were gunshots.
