Octavio Alan Ochoa Martínez, a 38-year-old lawyer, was executed by hitmen on Tuesday afternoon in the Colonia Moderna neighborhood of Guadalajara. In addition to his legal practice, the victim served as a state councilor for the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and had a prior background in public administration within the municipality of Zapopan.

The attack took place around 3:00 p.m., as Ochoa Martínez was arriving at his workplace—the law firm “Asesoría Jurídica Serna y Asociados”—located near the intersection of Rayón and Francia streets. According to reports from the Guadalajara Police Department, the attorney was driving his Kia Sportage SUV when two hitmen riding a motorcycle approached and fired directly at him at least four times.

Upon sustaining the gunshot wounds—one to the neck and another to the head—the lawyer attempted to maneuver his vehicle in reverse to escape the assault. However, the severity of the neck injury caused massive blood loss, leading him to lose control of the vehicle, which ultimately crashed into a set of planters.

Despite his injuries, Ochoa Martínez managed to open the vehicle’s door but collapsed onto the sidewalk, coming to rest just half a meter away from the SUV. Emergency paramedics arrived at the scene and initiated critical stabilization procedures; however, internal hemorrhaging complicated rescue efforts, and the lawyer passed away on the public street minutes later.

The scene quickly filled with the victim’s family members and close associates, many of whom suffered severe emotional distress and required immediate attention from specialized personnel provided by the Police Department. A young woman who was inside the law firm at the time of the attack witnessed the events, becoming a key witness in the ongoing investigation.

Octavio Alan Ochoa Martínez was a well-known figure within the local political sphere. Prior to his current position within the PRI, he worked in the Social Development Department of Zapopan under the administration of the current Morena councilman, Mauro Lomelí.

To date, authorities have reported no arrests, nor have they established a clear motive regarding whether the execution—carried out by hitmen—is linked to his professional work as a lawyer or to his political career.
