Governor Marina del Pilar Booed During Shakira Concert in Tijuana

Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda was seen at Shakira’s concert held at Tijuana’s Estadio Caliente on Monday, August 11.

Upon her arrival, young people waiting to enter booed her and criticized her for having received preferential access, demanding that she wait in line like the rest of the attendees and set an example.

In a video that began circulating on social media Tuesday night, Ávila Olmeda is seen wearing a blue shirt and white pants, accompanied by at least five other people, one of them apparently a security guard.

In the clip, the young people can be heard mocking the governor, stating that “You can never miss an event,” a sarcastic reference to the governor’s constant presence at these types of large-scale events. Boos were also heard, followed by unison shouts of “Out, out,” “Get in line,” and “Set an example.”

According to information on social media and local media, the governor’s access operation caused some delays in the entry of the rest of the attendees, so some allegedly missed the start of the show.

This is not the first time the governor has been caught at large concerts. She has already been seen at performances by other popular artists such as Julión Álvarez, where she was seen singing corridos; as well as with Alejandro Sanz, Gloria Trevi, and Yuri, the latter of which were also booed.

This recurrence prompted sarcastic comments among attendees, who questioned the frequency with which state authorities attend these types of events instead of addressing the needs of other citizens.
