The United States government transferred former Mexican Secretary of Public Security Genaro García Luna to the most secure and heavily guarded prison in the entire country: the supermaximum security Florence Penitentiary in Colorado, colloquially known as the Alcatraz of the Rocky Mountains.
It is the most secure and restrictive penitentiary in the entire United States, designed to house convicted criminals considered extremely high risk.
The inmates, no more than 500, are held in total isolation 23 out of 24 hours a day, and are only allowed one phone call per month. It has a history of zero successful escape attempts.
It is the same facility where drug traffickers such as Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán and Alfredo Beltrán Leyva are currently serving their sentences, as well as serial killers and terrorists like the person responsible for the Boston Marathon bombings.
