The story of Ryan Wedding, the Canadian former Olympian who became one of the FBI’s most wanted drug traffickers, will be the focus of a new international documentary series produced by Mexicans Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna.
The project, titled “Snow King: From Olympian to Narco,” explores the trajectory of the snowboarder who went from competing in the 2002 Winter Olympics to heading a cocaine trafficking network linked to the Sinaloa Cartel.
The docuseries promises to reveal previously unseen aspects of the pursuit, capture, and trial of the man described by FBI Director Kash Patel as “the modern-day version of El Chapo and Pablo Escobar.”
Filming for “Snow King: From Olympian to Narco” began in January 2025 and lasted for more than a year, covering locations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
