Frida Sofía Guzmán Muñoz, granddaughter of former Sinaloa Cartel leader Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, has launched her career in the music industry with the release of her single “Andas Contando,” in collaboration with singer Ceci Millán. At 20 years old, the young woman from Culiacán, Sinaloa, faces criticism and expectations due to her last name, which she claims to have no reason to hide or deny.

In an interview with the program “Siéntese quien puede,” Frida expressed that her foray into music has not been easy. She stated that many people make judgments about her based solely on her family lineage. However, she noted that those who really know her don’t see her in that light.

“People label you as someone you’re not,” she stated, but emphasized that she has no reason to feel ashamed of her origins. Frida is the daughter of Edgar Guzmán, one of Joaquín Guzmán Loera’s sons, who was murdered in 2008 when she was just three years old. After her father’s death, she moved to the United States with her mother, Frida Muñoz. Later, her mother married Julio César Chávez Jr., who has served as a father figure in her life.

Frida also shared that one of her main musical role models is Jenni Rivera, whom she considers her idol for her story of struggle and perseverance. She seeks to follow in her footsteps and establish herself as an artist with her own identity within regional Mexican music.

On social media, the official release of her single has generated both support and controversy, due to the attention generated by her relationship with one of Mexico’s most notorious criminals. However, the singer has reiterated that her intention is to stand out for her talent, not for her family history.
