Foreigner rants against huapango and calls it “noise”: “and they still expect me to pay them”

Social media has become a tool not only to keep us informed about what’s happening in Mexico and the world, but also an arena for the creation and dissemination of content. In recent hours, a video of a woman of Russian origin criticizing Mexican culture has gained prominence.

This is Natalia Popova, identified on TikTok as “natalia.rusa.mx.” The video, which lasts just a few seconds, shows her in a restaurant in Mexico City where artists and singers sometimes go to liven things up and earn a little money.

In the video, a man can be heard singing a classic huapango, which angered the content creator, and she made a comment that many considered derogatory. A short caption on her video demonstrates the woman’s lack of knowledge of Mexican culture.
