Florencia Franco resigns amid controversy at the National Palace; photos of her sunbathing mark her departure

Florencia Melany Franco Fernández, known for going viral after being photographed sunbathing at a window of the National Palace, left her job at the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) this Wednesday.

Sources close to the ministry confirmed to EL UNIVERSAL the official’s departure following the controversy caused by the images on social media.

Before her identity was confirmed, Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum stated that the public servant had been sanctioned, but no further details were provided.

Franco Fernández had worked at the SHCP for more than four years and served as an advisor to the then-Secretary of Finance, Rogelio Ramírez de la O.

In the current administration, headed by Édgar Amador Zamora, she held the position of Director General of Coordination.

The lawyer, a graduate of the Escuela Libre de Derecho and with a Master’s degree from the University of Paris-Panthéon-Assas, had a net annual income of 1,531,984 pesos, according to her most recent public asset declaration.
