The forest fires affecting Mexicali, in the state of Baja California, have triggered an alert due to the high concentration of smoke in the region. Authorities have therefore recommended that the population remain indoors, suspend outdoor activities, and keep doors and windows closed, in addition to seeking medical attention if they experience respiratory discomfort.
This situation has led to the closure of all municipal parks and public spaces until further notice.
According to the Governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, air quality has deteriorated significantly, prompting the official suspension of classes at all educational levels, both in public and private schools, on June 20.
The measure covers not only the city of Mexicali, but also the communities of El Valle, La Rumorosa, and El Hongo. This decision seeks to protect the health of students and the general population from the risks associated with smoke exposure.
Pilar Ávila Olmeda reported that authorities from all three levels of government are working together to control the fires affecting the region. In an official message, she highlighted the collaboration of various institutions, including the National Defense Ministry, the National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR), the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER), the State Civil Protection Agency, and the fire departments of Tijuana, Tecate, Ensenada, and Rosarito.
