More than two weeks after the tragic murder of his brother Gail Castro Cárdenas, known in the digital world as Gail Toys, influencer Markitos Toys made his first public appearance at a sporting event held in Puerto Vallarta, a plaza belonging to the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG). His presence at the event did not go unnoticed, as he was seen escorted at all times by a group of heavily armed men.
Videos that quickly went viral on the X social media platform on Monday, April 7, captured the moment when Markitos Toys was actively participating in a soccer game. In the images, he is seen interacting with his followers, posing for photographs, and wearing a casual outfit consisting of black pants, a green plaid shirt, sunglasses, and a cap. This appearance marks the YouTuber’s return to public life after his brother’s execution on March 28 in Ensenada, Baja California. Gail Toys was shot outside a restaurant, where he received at least fifteen bullet wounds.
In the various clips shared on social media, the close surveillance under which Markitos Toys was subjected is evident. Several bodyguards accompanied him closely at all times, a situation that sparked intense debate among users of digital platforms.
Remember that in Puerto Vallarta, no one takes a step without the CJNG knowing about it. This suggests that Markitos Toys, being a member of La Chapiza and/or Los Chapitos, is protected by the Jalisco Cartel, which formed an alliance with Los Chapitos to fight La Mayiza. The influencer’s reappearance sparked a variety of reactions on social media. Followers and anonymous users expressed contrasting opinions about his presence at the sporting event in Puerto Vallarta.
Some internet users expressed surprise and even criticism at seeing the YouTuber publicly active so soon after the loss of his brother. “Well, he’s not really in mourning or hiding,” commented one user.
Others focused on the considerable security detail surrounding him, going so far as to compare it to that of high-ranking political figures: “The Toys and the KCs are more closely guarded than President Sheinbaum, but they’re not hiding, and that’s the strangest thing about this.”
However, there were also numerous voices defending Markitos Toys’s right to grieve personally. “He experiences the pain of his brother’s death in a different way; he doesn’t necessarily have to always be sad and crying, so you know it hurt him a lot. He suffers in his own way,” expressed one user.
Likewise, some comments warned about the potential risks of sharing the influencer’s location in real time: “If you’re really their fans, don’t post where they are. YOU’RE PUTTING THEM AT RISK, just for a few likes.”
Among the expressions of understanding, one comment summed up the feelings of many: “And what’s the problem? They have it and they can. If they killed your brother, what would you do if you have money and are known like them?”
