Catholic priest Alfredo Gallegos Lara, known as “Father Pistolas,” sparked controversy in Guanajuato after issuing a verbal threat against the state’s governor, Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo.
During a homily on November 2nd, the priest spoke out against the Solís Aqueduct project, promoted by the state government, which, according to him, would harm the local community.
According to Gallegos Lara himself, the governor is directly responsible for the project and its consequences. In his sermon, broadcast via social media, the priest stated: “That f*cking governor wants to starve us to death. I already said, if she insists, we will take up arms. I’m going to beat the crap out of her, because she’s the one responsible for us all starving to death.” These words spread rapidly and provoked responses from both the political and social sectors.
Governor Libia Dennise García, in response to the controversy, issued an official statement on Thursday, November 6. In her message, the governor emphasized: “I publicly condemn this because no woman, whether in office or not, should be the victim of any kind of accusation of this nature.”
