The Baja California State Public Security Force announced Thursday the arrest of a man who was impersonating an FBI agent. The arrest occurred the previous day in the city of Tijuana.

The man, originally from Kansas City, Missouri, had an outstanding arrest warrant in the United States for drug trafficking, armed robbery, and fraud.

The suspect, who even carried a prop badge to convince people of his supposed role as an FBI agent, is identified as 56-year-old John Rockne. He also used the fake ID to avoid searches.

After his arrest, Baja California state authorities verified the man’s legal status with the U.S. Marshals Service, which confirmed that he had an active warrant for three crimes.

During the arrest, the State Public Security Force located a pillbox containing two clonazepam tablets, which were collected as evidence. Although John Rockne was not carrying weapons or other contraband, it was noted that he was using a counterfeit badge for identification.

It was also reported that the man arrested at a bar by the International Liaison Unit of the State Public Security Force, also known as “the gringo hunters,” was wanted by Utah authorities.
