Using the colors of the LGBTQ+ flag and other LGBTQ+ motifs, as well as sanitary napkins around the cross and stars placed on the nipples, images of Jesus Christ on the cross are displayed as part of the art exhibition called “Iconoclasm.”
This exhibition, which closes tomorrow, Friday, September 12, is on display at the Jesús Gallardo gallery, located in Guanajuato’s main university.
The exhibition has sparked outrage and outrage among Catholic organizations in Guanajuato and across the country, who consider it a mockery of their beliefs and demand its removal.
Therefore, through the Activate.org platform, they have launched a call to collect signatures and request the removal of the exhibition, which opened on Monday, September 8.
As of early Wednesday, the petition on the website had already collected 570 signatures of dissent.
“What is happening at the University of Guanajuato is an abuse of power: under the justification of ‘art,’ religious freedom is being violated, a human right protected both by the Constitution and by international treaties,” reads a statement issued by religious groups collecting signatures.
