It was in 2012 that actress Kate del Castillo’s life changed after she posted on her account, then known as Twitter: “Today I believe more in ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán than in the governments that hide truths from me, even painful ones, those who hide the cure for cancer, AIDS, etc., for their own benefit and wealth.”

She then added a message directed at the founder of the Sinaloa Cartel: “Mr. Chapo, wouldn’t it be great if you started trafficking in good things, in cures for diseases, in food for street children, in alcohol for nursing homes that don’t let the elderly spend their last years doing whatever the hell they want, in trafficking corrupt politicians instead of women and children who end up as slaves?” That tweet prompted Guzmán to contact her with the intention of having her tell her story in a film. So, in 2015, along with actor Sean Penn, she traveled to Cosalá, Sinaloa, to meet with one of the most wanted drug traffickers in history. Regarding the treatment Kate received from Guzmán Loera, Eric del Castillo, the actress’s father, recently spoke in an interview with Gustavo Adolfo Infante, stating that he wishes to thank “El Chapo” for the way he treated his daughter Kate.

In an episode of “The Minute That Changed My Destiny: Uncensored,” hosted by Gustavo Adolfo Infante, Eric del Castillo and his wife Kate were guests to discuss the actor’s career; however, the topic of the meeting between his daughter Kate and Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán came up.

It was his wife, Kate, who began recounting everything the star of “La Reina del Sur” had told them when she and Sean Penn met with Guzmán Loera. Kate del Castillo said: “They investigated her thoroughly, you wouldn’t believe it. Whether she’d given him money for his tequila, whether she’d given him money for herself—nothing, everything was above board. But that day, Eric said that the day he met El Chapo, he was going to thank him, and I was going to give him a hug and a kiss because he treated my daughter wonderfully.”
