“El Tato,” a criminal leader and alleged perpetrator of the “Lacoss” bar fire in Puebla, has been captured.

The Puebla Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) confirmed the arrest of Gabriel García Mendoza, known as “El Tato,” identified as one of the alleged perpetrators of the attack on the Lacoss bar, which occurred on November 18 in the city of Puebla and resulted in the deaths of six people. According to authorities, the arrest was made through an interagency operation involving state and federal agencies responsible for public safety.

Initial reports from authorities detail that the arrest took place on the night of November 26 following a coordinated deployment between the State Secretariat of Public Security, the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), the Mexican Army, and the municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security.

The suspect was located within the city of Puebla and subsequently taken into custody to be turned over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the head of the SSCP, Francisco Sánchez González, some survivors of the attack have directly identified “El Tato” as the alleged material and intellectual author of the fire at the nightclub.
