Agents from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) arrested César Oswaldo “N”—alias “El Pupito” or “Snaiper”—in the municipality of Tapachula. He is the alleged leader of the Mara 18-Sureños criminal group and was designated a priority target by the government of El Salvador.
State Attorney General Jorge Luis Llaven Abarca stated that the arrest was the result of international cooperation and intelligence-sharing mechanisms. The accused was subject to outstanding arrest warrants in his home country for terrorism, aggravated homicide, extortion, rebellion, illicit trafficking, and the deaths of six women.
According to the location and deportation notice provided by Central American authorities, the detainee—a 41-year-old mechanic—is originally from the Ilobasco district in the Cabañas municipality. To evade immigration controls and law enforcement, he used various aliases, including César Oswaldo Rodríguez, Jonathan Esteven García Mendoza, and Marlon Ernesto Montoya.
“Through these intelligence operations, we reaffirm our commitment to maintaining a secure border and preventing members of international criminal cells from using Chiapas territory as a safe haven,” the state prosecutor’s office noted.
The detainee was handed over to the National Migration Institute (INM) to coordinate the administrative deportation process and his subsequent transfer to Salvadoran security forces.
