“El Nene,” leader of Los Granados, linked to the Beltrán Leyva cartel in Guerrero, has died.

Rubén Granados Vargas, known as “El Nene” and leader of the Los Granados criminal group, died on the night of January 27 after spending 15 days hospitalized in Morelia, Michoacán, from gunshot wounds sustained during a family altercation in Tecpan de Galeana, in the Costa Grande region of Guerrero.

According to local media reports, the man, historically linked to the Beltrán Leyva cartel, was attacked on January 12 when his son, identified as “El Dany,” shot him after a family argument related to an attempt to get him into a rehabilitation center.

During the altercation, the young man shot his father in the face, the bullet exiting through his jaw. A bodyguard who intervened was also seriously wounded while trying to subdue the assailant.
