Sinaloa authorities confirmed the arrest in Mazatlán of a man who escaped from the Aguaruto prison during the failed operation to arrest Ovidio Guzmán in 2019, an event known as the Culiacanazo. Local media reports indicate that he is a high-profile operative for the Sinaloa Cartel.

The Sinaloa Public Security Secretariat (SSP) reported on February 17 that security forces arrested one of the escapees from the Aguaruto prison. While the official report does not specify the name of the captured individual, local press reports that it is Roberto “N,” alias El Mapache and/or El Mungui.

The report on his capture states that the individual was located by security agents as he left a property in the Ricardo Flores Magón neighborhood in a pickup truck without license plates. The person acted evasively, the agents conducted an inspection and found various clues, and the unit was placed under guard.
