‘El M40,’ leader of the Gulf Cartel linked to the murder of members of the Fugitive Group, recaptured

Federal agents assigned to Reynosa, Tamaulipas, recaptured Ulises “N,” alias “El Fayuca” or “El M40,” the alleged mastermind behind the murder and burning of five members of the musical group “Fugitive.”

Identified as a member of the Gulf Cartel criminal organization, “El M40,” he was previously in the custody of the Tamaulipas State Attorney General’s Office, although his legal status prior to this latest arrest is unknown.

The recapture of “El Fayuca” or “El M40” occurred on June 15 at 12:37 a.m. in Reynosa, according to the National Registry of Arrests of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection.

On June 17, the suspect will be brought before a federal judge who will determine the current legal status.
This development follows statements by state prosecutor Irving Barrios Mujica, who on Friday, June 13, reported on progress in the investigation into the multiple murders.

He announced that the technical, scientific, and legal results of the case will be known this week, without mentioning the alleged release of the criminal leader.

He added that another member of the group—absent at the time of the events—also gave a statement.

The case dates back to May 25, when the “Fugitivos” group allegedly received an offer to appear at a palapa (shade) in Reynosa.

After losing contact with them, their relatives filed a missing person report, and four days later they were found dead and burned.

That same May 29, the state prosecutor’s office announced the arrest of nine people, among whom, according to reports, was “El M 40” or “El Fayuca,” although this has not been officially confirmed.

In parallel, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) opened an investigation file at the request of the families of the deceased, who expressed distrust in the state prosecutor’s findings.
