Mauro Alberto Núñez Ojeda—alias “El Jando” or “El Jondo”—the personal pilot for Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar and an operative for Los Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel, signed a plea agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice on April 9, 2026. In the agreement, he admitted responsibility for conspiring to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine with the intent to illegally import it into the United States.

The document, obtained by Infobae México, states that he faces a minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum of life imprisonment, along with a fine of up to $10,000,000, in addition to a period of supervised release of at least five years following the completion of his prison term.
In the document, Núñez Ojeda is also identified by the alias “Alejandro Ojeda Ávila”—an identity he allegedly used to travel while utilizing a cousin’s passport.

The agreement was signed before the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in Washington; however, the information did not come to light until the publication of an article by journalist Keegan Hamilton in the *Los Angeles Times*, in which he asserts that Iván Archivaldo and Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar may be seeking a deal to surrender to U.S. authorities.
