At the arraignment hearing, Chávez Jr.’s defense attorney revealed that the federal prosecutor’s office presented 21 pieces of evidence in the indictment, nine of which refer to the boxer’s name. Two investigations by US agencies that the US Embassy in Mexico submitted to the Attorney General’s Office stand out: one from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and another from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
Víctor Manuel Félix Beltrán is the son of Víctor Manuel Félix Félix, El 69, Joaquín Guzmán’s godfather and head of the cocaine route from Ecuador, Peru, and Colombia to Mexico. His wife, Kenia Muñoz Román, is related to Chávez Jr.’s wife, Frida, who was married to Alfredo Guzmán, son of El Chapo, who was murdered in Culiacán, Sinaloa.
During the second hearing, where the Control Judge charged Julio César Chávez Jr. with alleged organized crime and arms trafficking in his alleged complicity with the Sinaloa Cartel’s “La Chapiza,” the Public Ministry agent specializing in organized crime, terrorism, arms stockpiling, and arms trafficking presented two documents as evidence against the boxer that refer to investigations by U.S. agencies.
The other investigation involves a document that was also submitted by the Embassy to the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime, where the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) confirms it is also investigating the boxer.
Before issuing the ruling linking him to the case, Control Judge Enrique Hernandez Miranda said that the investigations being conducted by US agencies confirm and coincide with the suspicions that the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) agents have been working on and investigating.
On July 4, Excélsior published that the Mexican justice system had been targeting Julio César Chávez Jr. since March 2023.
There was an arrest warrant against the boxer for organized crime, arms, ammunition, and explosives trafficking, the FGR had revealed.
