An armed group murdered Alejandro Castañeda Hernández, alias “El Cando,” identified as a key operator for the Sinaloa Cartel in Baja California, with more than 50 shots in a clandestine bar in Tecate. A woman who was with him also died, and the attackers attempted to burn the bodies before fleeing the scene.
In the early hours of Saturday, November 1, an armed group attacked the clandestine bar “Beer Zoo,” located in the Rincón Tecate neighborhood on Ezequiel Rodríguez Street.
According to information from Proceso, the target was “El Cando,” who at that moment was getting out of a white Chevrolet Malibu with California license plates, along with Gloria Catalina Flores, identified as his romantic partner. At least three gunmen opened fire with .223 caliber rifles in front of the establishment as the couple tried to take refuge inside.
More than 50 spent shell casings were found at the scene. After the attack, the perpetrators attempted to incinerate the bodies using a gas canister, but were unsuccessful.
Zeta Tijuana added that municipal police found El Cando lying near the main entrance, while the woman was found at the back of the establishment. Red Cross paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.
