After reporting threats against her for publishing an article related to the murder of the son of Manuel Cisneros Romero, a businessman from Baja California, journalist Adela Navarro Bello demanded that the media not be singled out for disseminating information about crimes, but rather that the authorities be asked to investigate and solve them.

This statement comes after the specialist in drug trafficking and investigations filed two reports regarding threats following the arrival of businessman Manuel Cisneros Romero, owner of a birria restaurant, at the offices of the Zeta Tijuana Weekly—of which she is co-director—due to the publication of an article outlining the lines of investigation into the murder of his son, Omar Cisneros, which occurred on October 18 inside a family restaurant in Ensenada.

In an interview with Infobae Mexico, Navarro Bello explained that on October 31, Manuel Cisneros Romero came to the offices of the weekly newspaper to demand that he “face the music” regarding the publication of the article, which was signed “Zeta Investigations.”

The article mentioned three hypotheses that the Baja California State Attorney General’s Office was pursuing regarding the murder: a legal dispute over land with another restaurant owner, extortion, and alleged ties to individuals identified as belonging to a cell of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

“He came to the offices, summoned the media, arrived with several outlets, mostly digital, and held a press conference where he was somewhat agitated and demanded that I face him. (…) He arrived with armed bodyguards to protect the restaurant owner. And also with a lawyer,” he explained.
