On Tuesday, the Secretariat of National Defense deployed approximately 1,000 Mexican Army troops to Sinaloa, marking the largest military reinforcement in the state so far this year. The operation began at 8:50 a.m., involving coordinated air and ground movements from various points across the country.
As part of this deployment, 100 members of the Paratrooper Rifleman Brigade traveled on a National Guard Boeing 727 aircraft. The remaining troops utilized specialized personnel transport vehicles.
This contingent joins the 90 members of the Special Forces Corps who had already been sent to Sinaloa on June 26 as part of a phased reinforcement of the federal presence. The arrival of the new troops follows a federal operation that resulted in the arrest of 30 individuals in Durango on June 28.
The operation in Durango took place in the Mexiquillo tourist area, in the municipality of Pueblo Nuevo, and was carried out without armed confrontation. Authorities attributed the success of the raid to prior intelligence work and continuous surveillance in the region.
Unofficial reports indicate that the detainees include two to three high-priority targets for the Armed Forces. Several of those captured are reportedly linked to the Cabrera Sarabia brothers’ organization and the Sinaloa Cartel faction led by Ismael Zambada Sicairos, alias “Mayito Flaco.”
