The death of Mexican animator Luis de la Rosa Obregón in France is shrouded in doubt after his family rejected the suicide hypothesis being pursued by local authorities, denounced a deficient investigation, and demanded the intervention of the Mexican government to clarify the circumstances of his death, which occurred on June 24 in Annecy during the International Animation Film Festival.

Carlos Figueroa, cousin of the animator’s father, traveled to France with Luis de la Rosa’s father to confront the authorities directly. In an interview with Radio Fórmula, Figueroa described an investigation that, in his opinion, seeks to close the case without answering the family’s fundamental questions.

“They are doing nothing because they just want to give the impression that it was a case of suicide, which it absolutely wasn’t, and we have many reasons to know this, to wash their hands of it and close the case,” he said.

Figueroa listed several reasons why the family flatly rejects the hypothesis being considered by French authorities. The most compelling: an engagement ring was found in the TV host’s suitcase, which he planned to give to his partner on July 1st in London.
