Dámaso López Serrano, alias El Mini Lic, son of one of Joaquín Guzmán Loera’s trusted agents, El Chapo, pleaded guilty today to fentanyl trafficking in a federal court in Virginia, United States.
On April 28, the Eastern District Court of Virginia scheduled a hearing for El Mini Lic, son of Damaso López Núñez, “El Licenciado,” to formalize his plea of not guilty to guilty on May 28.
The man was arrested in December 2024 in Virginia and charged with having participated, since September 2024, in a “conspiracy to distribute 400 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of (…) fentanyl.”
He is scheduled to be sentenced on September 5 in the same court where he pleaded guilty today.
‘El Mini Lic’ is the son of Dámaso López Núñez, known as El Licenciado, who was considered the successor to Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán. Guzmán was extradited from Mexico to the United States on January 19, 2017, and tried in 2018 for 17 crimes, including drug trafficking and money laundering.
The drug lord surrendered to DEA agents in Calexico, California, on July 27, 2017, and, according to the Department of Justice, is the “highest-ranking Mexican drug trafficker” ever to surrender to U.S. authorities.
On August 7 of that year, the DEA reported that Dámaso López Serrano was indicted in federal court after his surrender to U.S. law enforcement authorities.
