A neighborhood dispute in Cancún, apparently related to a dog bite, escalated into riots, damage to a home, and a large security operation in Supermanzana 23.
The incident began when a Mexican citizen went to a residence to complain that he had allegedly been bitten by a dog. According to videos circulating on social media, the man only wanted to know if the animal had been vaccinated against rabies and to request its vaccination record.
A Cuban man attacked a person who confronted him about being bitten by his dog in Supermanzana 23 of #Cancún. The attack enraged the community, who began organizing to stone the violent foreigner’s house.
However, the argument ended in a physical assault by a man of Cuban origin identified as Rigoberto ‘N’. Images of the altercation quickly went viral on social media, sparking outrage among users and residents of the area.
In response, a call to action began circulating on social media, urging people to gather at the home of the alleged aggressor, whom some internet users referred to as “the Cuban piñata.” This call to action escalated into violence.
Dozens of people arrived at the property located in downtown Cancún on the night of Wednesday, May 27. During the demonstration, several attendees threw rocks and bottles at the house, damaging windows, doors, and the main gate. Some even attempted to force entry using motorcycles.
The tension prompted a large-scale operation involving officers from the Benito Juárez Municipal Police, the State Police, the National Guard, the Navy, and riot police.
