Cruz Azul Fan’s Death: Liga MX Assures It Was Not Informed of “Any Incident”

Rodrigo Mondragón, a Cruz Azul fan, died on the night of Saturday, October 25, after allegedly being subdued by university security personnel near the Estadio Olímpico Universitario. While the family demands a thorough investigation to determine the responsibility of those involved, Liga MX stated in a statement that “no incident was reported” during its security operation.

According to the statement, the security operation for the Cruz Azul vs. Monterrey match began at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and included the deployment of 1,600 Auxiliary Police officers, 189 UNAM security personnel, 900 private security personnel, and 60 university civil protection personnel, in addition to three ambulances and 12 paramedics.

The pregame meeting with the commissioners took place at 6:45 p.m., and the gates opened at 7:00 p.m. The official attendance was 18,406 fans.
