‘Commander Richard’ Assassinated in Culiacán; He Was the Head of the Motorcycle Squad

A Culiacán Municipal Police commander was shot and killed on the night of Wednesday, July 16, in the Libertad neighborhood, south of the city. The victim was identified as Ricardo Heleno Sánchez Quintero, better known as “Commander Richard,” who headed the corporation’s motorcycle squad.

According to the Municipal Public Safety and Transit Secretariat (SSPyTM), the victim had 11 years of service and was on his day off at the time of the attack. Ricardo Heleno’s operational base was in Park 87, where the Municipal Police motorcycle squad headquarters is located.

According to local media outlets such as Noroeste and Ríodoce, the attack occurred around 9:00 p.m., while Ricardo Heleno was driving a red Ford Ranger pickup truck on Manuel J. Clouthier Boulevard.

The vehicle was stopped traveling in the wrong direction, with its lights on and the engine running. The captain’s body was found lying on the seat, apparently in an attempt to shield himself from the gunfire.
