The confrontation between the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and La Familia Michoacana over a territorial dispute threatens the safety of residents of the community of Zihuaquio in Guerrero. They demanded the presence of members of the Armed Forces from President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and the state governor, Evelyn Salgado.
A video shared by the South of Acapulco reports on the measures residents must take in the face of armed attacks by hitmen from rival criminal cells, who are sheltering inside a home and sitting on the floor.
The residents, mostly women and minors, are requesting that members of the Mexican Army and the National Guard (GN) be sent to the community because, following their withdrawal, gunfire has been reported at their homes.
“Governor Evelyn Salgado and President Claudia Sheinbaum, we ask that you send us government support, whatever you can, from the Navy or the National Guard. Just now they withdrew and started shooting at our houses again. We’re sheltering. Please, we want support,” one of the women can be heard saying, looking visibly worried.
