The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) stated that its actions against cartels to disrupt the fentanyl supply chain have resulted in lower legal doses of the drug than those detected in 2023.

According to the data, the Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) modified their business practices, which was detected through laboratory tests conducted by the DEA.

These analyses indicated that only 29 percent of the fentanyl pills analyzed in 2025 contained a potentially lethal dose, representing a significant decrease from the 76 percent detected in 2023.

In addition to the reduction of just over 40 percent in the lethality of the doses, the DEA document states that the purity of the fentanyl powder also decreased to 10.3 percent, down from 19.5 percent in 2023.
