Child pornography alert in Tamaulipas; the crime spreads online

Written by Parriva — August 22, 2025

In Tamaulipas, human trafficking and the distribution of child pornography are crimes that are spreading globally in silence and are rarely discussed. However, authorities have sounded the alarm after discovering more than seven groups on social media and mobile apps with more than 9,000 subscribers who view videos and photographs and hire sexual services from minors. However, so far this year, only two arrests have been made in connection with these cases.

In 2024, an anonymous complaint filed with the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office alerted the public about a group on social media and mobile apps where minors were offered sex in exchange for money.

The Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) began an investigation and managed to locate the administrator of at least seven groups where 18,742 photographs and 3,072 videos had been distributed to just over 5,000 pedophiles who paid sums of money to obtain the material.
Cyber investigators determined that the epicenter of the operation was in Ciudad Victoria, the capital of the state of Tamaulipas, which had been in the national news in recent years due to problems in its state prison, but also because the law enforcement agencies’ crime map indicates the presence of several organized crime cells.

A city of bureaucrats, the local government is seeking to give it another economic turnaround, but has failed to do so, as water shortages complicate matters.
