A supervisory judge has sentenced Uriel to 17 years and 6 months in prison for his involvement in the murder of Sebastián, a 14-year-old boy with autism who was killed on September 6 in Gómez Palacio, Durango. The sentence was handed down after an abbreviated proceeding, in which Uriel accepted responsibility.
The tragedy occurred at the Durango bakery, where Sebastián, known as “Chechito,” worked occasionally to help his family, who were facing financial difficulties.
According to the account of the events, Dante, Isaac, and Uriel were there when Dante began playing “Russian roulette” with a revolver. Isaac and Uriel overpowered Chechito, while Dante pointed the gun at the boy’s chest.
The family’s lawyer, Zuriel Rosas, explained that the gun misfired on three attempts, but on the fourth shot, the bullet detonated, fatally wounding Sebastián and Isaac. Uriel took the victim to the Red Cross, but Chechito no longer showed vital signs.
The case has sparked widespread outrage, and the community has shown its support for Sebastián’s family with marches and vigils to demand justice.
The family, accompanied by a lawyer, has vowed to continue the legal process until all those involved are brought to justice.
Isaac, another of the co-perpetrators, was charged with aggravated homicide with advantage and transferred to the Durango Prison. If convicted, he could face a sentence of between 20 and 50 years in prison.
Dante, the shooter, remains at large. The Durango State Attorney General’s Office has launched a search and has requested the public’s assistance in locating him, guaranteeing the anonymity of anyone who provides information.
