During the final hours of December 8, César Duarte Jáquez, former governor of Chihuahua, was transferred under heavy security to the Federal Social Rehabilitation Center Number One, El Altiplano, located in the municipality of Almoloya de Juárez, State of Mexico. This transfer follows the former governor’s recent arrest in Chihuahua.

Duarte’s arrest took place on Monday, December 8, as he was leaving his home in the state he governed. According to federal authorities, after his arrest, the former governor was first taken to Mexico City and, after undergoing security and custody protocols, was transported by land to the federal prison. The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) confirmed the arrest and detailed that it was carried out in compliance with an arrest warrant issued on May 16, 2024.

The FGR accuses César “N” of participating in a money laundering scheme. The legal proceedings against the former official began this Monday, for events dating back to his time as a public servant in Chihuahua.

The investigations indicate that he allegedly used his position to facilitate the channeling of public funds into money laundering mechanisms, using the Mexican financial system to attempt to conceal the illicit origin of those resources.
