The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) has opened an investigation to identify those responsible for torturing a cat with fireworks in the municipality of Pénjamo.

The alleged perpetrators are criminology students from EDUCEM University, reported the Gaticos AC Association of León.

“They committed an atrocious act: they tied fireworks to the body of a kitten and made it explode, causing unimaginable suffering,” it denounced.

Through social media, the group emphasized that what the criminology students did was not a “game” or a “joke”; it was animal cruelty.

In the state of Guanajuato, animal abuse is a crime, and as criminology students, they should know this, the organization criticized.

“If anyone has names, photos, or information about those responsible for the crime of animal abuse committed by EDUCEM Pénjamo students, please send them by private message,” they requested.

They warned that the cat’s torture will not go unpunished and recalled that a few months ago, it was documented that felines were abused in Xichú at a patron saint festival, and a criminal case is underway in this case.

“We demand that municipal and state authorities identify those responsible. Initiate immediate criminal proceedings. Ensure that these acts do not go unpunished,” they urged.

The Prosecutor’s Office has already initiated the corresponding investigation, reported Secretary of Government Jorge Jiménez Lona.

“We strongly condemn any act of animal cruelty,” he announced.

The official asked the public not to tolerate or reproduce violence against sentient beings and to report these acts.

“From the People’s Government, we are doing the same. In Guanajuato, we are working to promote a culture of peace, respect, and care for all living beings,” he concluded.
