The former CEO of Petróleos Mexicanos, Carlos Treviño, was arrested in the United States, President Claudia Sheinbaum announced, for acts of corruption.
At the morning press conference at the National Palace, the president announced that the former official is linked to the Odebrecht case.
She explained that the former Pemex director had an extradition order five years ago, stemming from a complaint by Emilio Lozoya accusing him of receiving bribes. “He’s finally here, he will be deported in the coming days, and his trial must take place in Mexico.”
From the Treasury Room, the head of the federal executive branch stated that the case was presented at the morning meeting of the Security Cabinet. She added that Treviño Medina will be deported to Mexico.
“Yesterday, a former director of Pemex was arrested. He was part of the alerts that existed, and it’s good. They’re going to deport him and he’ll be tried here in Mexico for corruption. So, it’s also important to highlight, although we want them to do more, the actions they’ve also taken,” he stated.
