Platforms like TikTok have become a way for people around the world to share their daily struggles, finding support in the digital community and even receiving financial assistance for expensive treatments. While many of these medical cases may seem real, they are often fabrications, as was the case with Brittany Miller.
The influencer has dedicated her channel to showcasing her daily life with her two children and husband. However, one of her latest videos deviated from her usual format when she confessed to her more than three million followers that in 2017 she faked having advanced stomach cancer. With her voice breaking with emotion, Miller stated that she was experiencing an emotional crisis at the time, which led her to lie. “I was depressed, I had suicidal thoughts, I felt lost and confused,” she said. “I had lost my partner, my job, and many things that year led me to become mentally ill,” Brittany Miller said in the video.
