The Baja California State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) confirmed that the attack on the anti-kidnapping unit headquarters in Playas de Tijuana on the night of October 15 was carried out using drones that launched three homemade explosive devices.

State authorities reported that the investigation is being conducted under the crime of terrorism, amid a context of increasing attacks on law enforcement facilities in the state.

According to Attorney General María Elena Andrade Ramírez, the incident occurred at 7:06 p.m. at the headquarters of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Kidnapping, located on El Picacho Avenue, in the Playas de Tijuana neighborhood. At the time, the full shift was present; some employees were returning from hearings and others were conducting office work.

The prosecutor reported, in a press conference held early Thursday morning, that shots were heard and officers immediately noticed explosives falling in the courtyard of the facility.
