Lorena Blanco Pita, a leading figure in women’s bodybuilding in Spain, died after suffering a heart attack at the age of 37. The national fitness champion collapsed at home and was taken to the Lucus Augusti University Hospital (HULA), where medical staff confirmed her death.
Blanco’s death shocked the bodybuilding community, where she was considered a leading figure and was even preparing to face one of the greatest challenges of her life at the Mr. Olympia, to be held in Las Vegas, United States, in October.
“I said I would do everything to continue, and that’s what I will do. Keep my word to myself, for her,” her partner and coach, Izzy Bolaños, wrote on social media.
“Tonight Lorena left us, family, a friend and a person who never failed to smile at me. We have met at many events and I am still assimilating this news that I received a few hours ago. You are eternal Lorena, the woman with the endless smile. And an exceptional human being. Please refrain from useless comments. Today a human being has passed away, nothing to do with bodybuilding. My deepest condolences to the entire family, to Galician bodybuilding and especially to her partner Izzy. Farewell friend,” wrote bodybuilder Javi Garcia.
