In less than 24 hours, the “La Mayiza” faction, identified as one of the most powerful and violent arms of the Sinaloa Cartel, suffered a series of consecutive blows in two of its key strongholds.

Killings, arrests, and the brief detention of one of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada’s daughters marked a day of unprecedented pressure. The pursuit ended in a confrontation that resulted in the death of César Gabriel Zepeda Guzmán, alias “La Barquita” or “La Varquita,” identified by state authorities as La Mayiza’s chief hitman in the region.

The operation began near a shopping center and extended to Plaza Punto Bahía, where the criminal leader’s vehicle was intercepted. Images captured by civilians and shared on social media documented the tense moments, with explosions and intense mobilization that caused alarm among motorists and residents.

Recent developments have emerged regarding the criminal organization now headed by Ismael Zambada Sicairos, alias “Mayito Flaco,” which is currently waging a war against Los Chapitos, the sons of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.

The first significant action occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 18, in the port of Manzanillo, Colima. Members of the Mexican Navy (SEMAR) and the Colima State Police intercepted an armed group on the Miguel de la Madrid coastal boulevard, the main thoroughfare of the port city.
