Bertha Gómez Fong, wife of former Chihuahua Governor César Duarte, is set to be deported to Mexico following her detention by agents of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

In a statement, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) clarified that Gómez Fong’s detention was not the result of any request issued by the Mexican agency.

However, once she had been detained, the FGR received a request from the Chihuahua Attorney General’s Office, which currently has open investigations against Duarte Jáquez’s wife.
According to reports, Gómez Fong is accused of facilitating the triangulation of funds during the administration of César Duarte, who is charged with laundering 7.3 million pesos.

In August 2020, a judge ordered the arrest of Bertha Gómez, who at the time had successfully obtained a writ of *amparo* (injunction).
