On the morning of November 6, authorities in the state of Michoacán reported progress in the investigation into the murder of Carlos Manzo, mayor of Uruapan, which occurred during the Festival of Candles. The attack took place while the mayor was interacting with people, including children, in the plaza, after having inaugurated some of the event’s activities.
Now, five days after the violent events, the Attorney General of Michoacán, Carlos Torres Piña, confirmed that the perpetrator of the homicide has been identified as Víctor Manuel, a 17-year-old from the municipality of Paracho.
According to the official, the minor’s body has been identified and claimed by his family, who confirmed that the young man had left home a week prior. According to authorities, the body tested positive for sodium rhodizonate, confirming the hypothesis that he was the perpetrator of Carlos Manzo’s murder.
“It is important to reiterate that the expert reports performed on Víctor Manuel’s body, in particular the sodium rhodizonate test, came back positive, confirming the hypothesis of material authorship,” clarified the state prosecutor, who also detailed that the young man had a history of methamphetamine addiction. This expert report on addictions was confirmed by the family.
