Authorities in the state of Zacatecas reported Thursday night an attack on a convoy traveling near El Soyate ranch, owned by Mexican singer Pepe Aguilar. State police and military vehicles comprised the convoy when they were fired upon. Rodrigo Reyes Mugüerza, the state’s Secretary of Government, confirmed the attack on the authorities in the municipality of Villanueva. Reyes stated that Pepe Aguilar was not present at the scene.
Reyes announced on social media that no military or police personnel were killed in the attack, though he did not provide information on the condition of the alleged attackers. In a video, the official stated that some of the suspected perpetrators had been apprehended.
Authorities repelled the attack and asked the public to avoid the area due to the ongoing security operation to locate the remaining members of the attack group. This Friday, the spokesperson for the Peacebuilding Committee will provide more information about the incident.
