Following the confirmation of the planned third anti-gentrification march from the Hemiciclo a Juárez to the US Embassy in Mexico City, the latter has issued an alert for its citizens residing in the country.

“US citizens should avoid participating in demonstrations that authorities may consider political, as Mexican law prohibits political activities by foreign citizens, and participation may result in detention or deportation,” the statement reads.

Recommended actions for US citizens include:

Avoid areas near protests and demonstrations.

Monitor local media for updates.

Follow the instructions of local authorities and, in case of emergency, call 911.

The U.S. Embassy is providing several communication lines as per the alert:

From Mexico: (55) 8526 2561

From the United States: +1-844-528-6611

Department of State – Consular Affairs: +1-888-407-4747 or +1-202-501-4444

Through its Instagram account, the Young Housing Front called for a new march against gentrification, which will take place at 2:00 p.m. this coming Saturday. The slogan is “Against dispossession, gentrification, imperialism, and the capital that expels us from our neighborhoods and our lives.”
