Following the death of teacher Irma Hernández Cruz, who was kidnapped by a criminal group for failing to pay extortion money, a new case of armed attack against a taxi driver was reported in northern Veracruz.
Initial reports indicate that the taxi with license plate number 592 from Tuxpan was traveling Saturday morning on the Tuxpan-Cazones highway when, near the Praxedis Guerrero community, men on a motorcycle opened fire on the vehicle.
As a result of the attack, one passenger was wounded by a gunshot, while the driver was killed inside the vehicle.
The Case of Retired Teacher Irma Hernández Outrages Mexico
The video circulating on social media showed the retired teacher, Irma Hernández Cruz, subdued and surrounded by about 12 hooded and armed men.
Witnesses reported that armed men intercepted the former teacher around 6:30 p.m. in front of the Municipal Market and forced her into a van.
Irma Hernández, a retired teacher, was kidnapped in the municipality of Álamo Tampache while driving her taxi after refusing to pay an extortion fee allegedly imposed by members of the Sombra Group.
