AMLO Reappears, Thinner and Happier: ‘I’m Glad to See You. We Have the Best President in the World,’ He Said While Voting

Former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reappeared this Sunday, after leaving office on October 1, to participate in the election of members of the Judiciary, and took the opportunity to share his opinion on his successor.

“Something I confess publicly: we have the best President in the world, Claudia Sheinbaum, I repeat, the best President in the world,” he said.

The former president left his country estate, La Chingada, but not through the main entrance where his departure was expected.

Visibly thinner than eight months ago, when he presented Claudia Sheinbaum with the presidential sash, López Obrador crouched in front of the screen at the polling station for about 10 minutes to mark the boxes, while the neighbors of the site waited for him, hugging him, kissing him, and offering their congratulations.

“Never in the history of our country have the people decided directly, nor have they had the right to elect judges, magistrates, and ministers of the Judiciary. This is the first time in history, which is why I wanted to participate in this historic election,” he told the media after casting his vote.
Wearing a white linen guayabera, he responded to reporters’ questions about his health, saying he was “very well.”

“I’m very well and it’s a pleasure to see you,” he said in the calm tone he maintained throughout his administration.
The former president visited a special booth located in front of the Municipal Palace in Palenque, Chiapas, and took the opportunity to announce that his next book on the history of pre-Hispanic Mexico will be ready by the end of the year. He also revealed that this is the third time he has left the estate where he spent his political retirement.
