What was supposed to be a family vacation ended in a series of tragic homicides in the state of Guanajuato. A family of three from the United States was murdered after traveling to a farm located in the community of Santa Mónica Ozumbilla, in Yuriria, south of Guanajuato.

The events occurred last Friday; however, it wasn’t until August 5 that the Guanajuato Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that three of the victims were members of an American family, and the remaining three were identified as textile businessmen from Moroleón.

The violent attack involved firearms and blows with a sledgehammer. The state prosecutor’s investigation ruled out any links to illicit activities among the victims. The crime was described as “very atypical,” and an investigation was opened to determine responsibility.

Investigations indicate that a group of armed men arrived in a pickup truck at the farm where the six victims were staying and opened fire. Neighbors reported the multiple shots to authorities, prompting officers from the Ministry of Public Security to the farm. Civil Protection paramedics also responded to the tragic scene and confirmed that the six victims had injuries apparently caused by a sledgehammer and none of them showed signs of life.

Gerardo Vázquez Alatrista, the State Prosecutor, confirmed that three of the victims were US citizens and were enjoying their vacation. He explained that they were originally from southern Guanajuato, but had lived in the United States for more than 30 years. He also confirmed that progress is being made in the investigation to find those responsible for the massacre that has put the community of Santa Mónica Ozumbilla on edge.

A similar incident occurred on July 16th, after a 17-year-old American girl traveled from New Mexico to Ciudad Juárez, in the state of Chihuahua, to visit an acquaintance. However, on July 19th, her family received messages from extortionists demanding payment for the minor’s release. Three days later, the girl’s body was found at a home in the UrbiVilla del Cedro neighborhood.
