Alleged Los Cromos leader Iván “El Cromo” faces federal firearms and drug charges following his arrest in Guadalajara. A judge ordered him held at Altiplano prison as the investigation continues.

Federal prosecutors obtain court order advancing case against alleged Los Cromos leader.

Iván “N,” known as “El Cromo,” was formally placed under criminal proceedings on October 22 after federal prosecutors presented evidence concerning alleged illegal firearm possession and drug possession with intent to sell.

Authorities identify him as an alleged leader of Los Cromos, a criminal organization operating in Oaxaca’s Isthmus of Tehuantepec region and believed to be associated with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. Investigators have linked the organization to homicide, extortion, kidnapping and drug and weapons trafficking, although those allegations should not be confused with the specific charges before the court.

Iván was arrested October 14 in Guadalajara in an operation involving Mexico’s Navy intelligence unit and the National Intelligence Center. A federal judge ordered him to remain in preventive detention at the Altiplano federal prison in the State of Mexico and allowed prosecutors one additional month to complete their investigation.
