Alejandro Fernandez tense altercation with local officers almost cancels show as singer warns fans about rising immigration risks in the U.S.
The incident occurred on Saturday, June 21, when renowned Mexican singer Alejandro Fernández performed at the Kaseya Center in Miami as part of his “De Rey a Rey” tour — a tribute to his late father, legendary ranchera singer Vicente Fernández.
Shortly before going on stage, Fernández encountered a tense moment with local police that, according to his own account, nearly led to the concert’s cancellation.
Upon arriving at the venue, Fernández found the parking lot entrance blocked by traffic cones. When he attempted to move one of the cones to gain access, he was confronted by police officers. According to the singer, a patrol car was nearby but initially unoccupied. As soon as they moved the cone, an officer intervened aggressively.
Fernández recounted the event at the end of his concert, urging fans to leave the venue calmly and avoid confrontations with authorities. He told the crowd:
“People are on edge, be careful — it happened to me,”
“I was bringing the truck to the arena, grabbed one of the cones, and all of a sudden, the officer came at us hard. There was a patrol car, but no officer at first. We moved the cone, and then the officer came down on us.”
Though he didn’t share more specifics, Fernández implied the situation escalated to a point where he feared it might affect his immigration status, adding:
“Man, they were ready to throw me out. We were almost deported.”
The singer’s statements were recorded on video and have been widely shared across social media, sparking concern and mixed reactions, particularly in the context of recent immigration raids and growing tensions between law enforcement and Latino communities in parts of the U.S.
Some of the Public Reactions on social media:
- “The ones who need to calm down are others.”
- “Heads up. Be careful if you live in the U.S. and attend protests.”
- “Hope ICE isn’t waiting for them outside.”
- “He’s protecting people by urging caution.”
- “Now that’s a real star.”
As of now, no official police report or formal complaint has been made public, Fernández has not issued a follow-up statement, nor have authorities responded to his comments.
The incident comes amid a period of heightened immigration enforcement in Florida and other states.
