Today marks the beginning of a new edition of the LéaLA Spanish Book Fair and Literary Festival. For four days, this event will offer Los Angeles the opportunity to hear diverse voices and stories, providing a welcome respite from the turbulent times the country is experiencing.

Marisol Schultz, director of the event, commented in a previous interview on the unique opportunity books provide to travel to other times, places, and dimensions—making the reader’s experience all the more enriching.

“This time, we are faced with uncertainty due to the political situation in the country. Our role with this event is to offer readers—and especially children and young people, to whom this fair is dedicated—an immersive experience that allows them to travel through their imaginations,” says Schultz, who is also the director of the Guadalajara International Book Fair, the most important Spanish-language book fair in the world. Both events are sponsored by the University of Guadalajara.

This year, LéaLA’s theme is “Let’s Build Peace,” a constructive message full of hope. There will also be a strong emphasis on children’s and young adult literature, with numerous writers in these genres participating to share their stories with children across Los Angeles. For years, LéaLA has collaborated with LAUSD and other cultural organizations to present an exclusive program for schoolchildren.

The four-day event is expected to bring together Latino families in celebration of our cultural legacy.

The event will take place at LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes. The full program is available at: https://lea-la.com/programa/
